ABOUT RVDK

RVDK Ronald van der Kemp is the world’s

first sustainable couture label.

Founded In August 2014, RVDK shuns the fashion system’s wasteful ways, proposing wardrobes consisting of

limited-edition statement pieces, that are seasonless and timeless clothes as an expression of a women’s personality underlining her strength and character.

Each style is ethically made with high-end existing materials and leftovers, and crafted by hand by small ateliers and artisans

in his native Holland.

Ronald van der Kemp worked for over 25 years as designer and creative director for high-end international luxury brands such as Bill Blass, Celine/Michael Kors, Guy Laroche and Barneys before launching a label under his own name.

RVDK is on a mission to show the world that ethical fashion can be glamorous and exciting, injecting high fashion with a feeling of nostalgia and a longing for the heydays of haute couture.

RVDK believes that a form of art can change behaviour which leads to a bigger change in the industry. The world is full of beautiful things we can't see anymore. Because we are to busy to  considerate them or too rookie to appreciate them. We are fashion alchemists: we capture unused beautiful fragments and turn them into unique work of art. For the sake of beauty. For the sake of our planet.

'When he launched five years ago, people scoffed, “How is that a business model?'

'Who’s laughing now?'  He has proved himself far ahead of the curve on hot ticket issues like upcycling, recycling, circularity, all in the service of the Big S: Sustainability. And he’s doing it with a pure couture sensibility.

Ronald van der Kemp continues to shout his sustainable high-fashion message loud and clear, and the resonance of his clarion call grows increasingly stronger. Beyond the collection’s message, which was crystal clear, the designer’s skill and technique were also glaringly apparent.

When Ronald van der Kemp launched his label five years ago, he was a lone voice practicing and proselytizing about working with overstock, deadstock, and leftovers. “I got a lot of raised eyebrows at the time,” he remembered backstage today. Now, with many designers talking about upcycling, he looks ahead of his time. But he hopes to continue to be a model for the industry—and for fashion-hungry girls. “My message is that they should build a look for themselves with vintage pieces that they keep and cherish, and buy with a conscience. I want to change the world in a positive way.” Van der Kemp puts his money where his mouth is: 98 percent of his pieces are made from reappropriated materials. “We work with what we find, and we work with what we have” is the first line of his manifesto.

Van der Kemp is dreaming big. He hinted at upcoming projects in the beauty space that hew to his sustainability philosophy. Imagine if in five years his disruptive ideas help reshape that category, too.

"I long for the days when luxury fashion was still a deeply intimate affair. Women would build up wardrobes that accentuated their personal style, carefully selecting designers they liked.

They happily saved up for that perfect dress or jacket, knowing it was crafted with love and would last a lifetime."
